چکیده

The architecture of an active DBMS determines both its functionality and the components that are required for its implementation. This chapter addresses rst some issues that have an impact on the architecture of an active database system, and presents the various architectural alternatives. The basic functions of an ADBMS are identiied and then related to the architectural alternatives. This chapter discusses rule speciication and registration , and rule execution. Special attention is devoted to the execution of transactions and its relationship to the execution of ECA rules. The architecture of an active DBMS determines both its functionality and the components that are required to realize it. Since an ADBMS by deeni-tion must provide the active capabilities in addition to full DBMS features, it can be viewed as an extension of a passive DBMS. There are various properties of the underlying DBMS and of the architectural strategy used for implementing the active extensions that will have an impact on the func-tionality and the performance of the active DBMS. The major dimensions that need to be considered are: the degree of integration between the underlying DBMS and the active capabilities, the system architecture of the underlying DBMS, and the data model of the DBMS and the programming language used for the active extensions. In this chapter we will brieey discuss the various architectural alternatives. We will then identify the basic functions and components of an ADBMS and will relate them to the various architectural alternatives and will point out the eeect of an architecture on the implementation of a given feature. We will address rst the rule speciication and registration func-tionality and then the rule execution subsystem. A central aspect of rule

Active Database Management Systems for Monitoring and Control

Active Database Management Systems (ADBMSs) have been developed to support applications with detecting changes in databases. This includes support for specifying active rules that monitor changes to data and rules that perform some control tasks for the applications. Active rules can also be used for specifying constraints that must be met to maintain the integrity of the data, for maintaining ...

An Active Database Framework for Adaptive Mobile Data Access

The ability to adapt to changes is among the most important issues in mobile information systems. We argue that active database system is the software architecture of choice as the foundation for adap-tive mobile information services. We propose a modular framework and system architecture for building active mobile information systems by integrating oo-the-shelf rule systems and database packag...

Active In-Database Processing to Support Ambient Assisted Living Systems

As an alternative to the existing software architectures that underpin the development of smart homes and ambient assisted living (AAL) systems, this work presents a database-centric architecture that takes advantage of active databases and in-database processing. Current platforms supporting AAL systems use database management systems (DBMSs) exclusively for data storage. Active databases empl...

Classroom Lighting Control Systems and Level of Energy Consumption, Tehran, Iran

Buildings play an important role in the energy demand sector. Due to the increase of environmentalconcerns and renewable energy sources restriction, lighting control systems will play an important role in the reductionof energy consumption of the lighting without impeding comfort goals. Lighting control systems can control lightingconsumption according to the type of building, adequate luminanc...
